This tutorial shows how to install OwnTV on Firestick and Android/Google TV devices.
OwnTV is a free, open-source live TV player built for Android TV/Google TV devices that integrates well with almost any live TV service. The latest update from the developers is v4.1.4 which was released on July 24, 2026.
We first heard about this live TV player from Patrons in the TROYPOINT Insider, which remains one of the best resources for cord-cutters.
Supported integrations include M3U playlists (by URL or a local file), Xtream Codes logins, Stalker portals. A full TV guide, profiles, offline saves, and catch-up viewing all arrive free.
OwnTV is available for installation on any Android-powered device that includes Fire TV and Android TV/Google TV boxes.
However, this app is not available in the popular app stores (Google Play & Amazon), so we will need to side-load the APK on our device. Below you will find installation tutorials, a feature breakdown, and our honest review.
How to Install OwnTV on Firestick & Android TV
In this guide, we are installing OwnTV on our Onn 4K Plus, but these instructions also work on any Fire TV, Android TV, or Google TV device.
1. You must first install the Downloader app on your device. If you haven’t done this, refer to our Downloader Tutorial. Make sure it is the official Downloader app by AFTVNews.
2. Then launch Downloader and click the search bar on top.
3. Enter the code 250931 to access the TROYPOINT Toolbox and click Go.
4. Wait a few seconds until you are redirected to the TROYPOINT Toolbox page.
5. Once in the TP Toolbox, scroll down to locate OwnTV and click the button to download it.
6. Wait a few seconds for the file to download then click Install.
7. Click Done.
8. Click Delete to delete the installation file.
9. Click Delete again.
10. Now launch the OwnTV application from your home screen.
11. Click Get Started.
12. Click I Understand.
13. Click New profile if this is your first time using this app.
14. Enter any name, choose your avatar, create a Kids profile if you want, and click Create.
15. Then click New on the Add a playlist screen.
16. Choose Manual unless you want to add a source remotely with your phone.
17. Now add the source for your live TV service or playlist. In this example we are adding an M3U playlist URL.
18. Enter the name and URL and then click Start Import.
TROYPOINT Tip: Here you will need to refer to your IPTV service login credentials. Typically they will provide login information for M3Us in your welcome email.
19. Click Sync now.
20. Wait a minute or two for your playlist data to import into OwnTV.
21. Click Continue after your channels have been imported.
22. That’s it! You should now see your imported channels appear within OwnTV.

OwnTV keeps the home screen simple and its main menu includes Home, Live TV, Movies, TV Shows, Downloads, TV Guide, and Settings.
The Live TV section is where you can access all of your channels sorted by categories.
You can also add channels to favorites as there is a dedicated ‘Favorites’ category.
Full screen mode works great on this live TV player. You can activate full screen by simply clicking a channel.
If your live TV service or playlist provides a working EPG, the TV Guide section works well.
The Movies and Series tabs are where you can access video-on-demand content if your live TV provider or playlist offers it.
OwnTV also offers a ton of settings you can customize for profiles, playlists, playback, EPG sources, appearance, parental controls, and more.

Is OwnTV APK Safe to Use?
